Induction Healthcheck results: London

news
26 Nov
175 members and officers from over 150 local authorities have used the induction healthcheck to assess their current member induction and wider member development strategy. Some of the key results were presented to Capital Ambition's one-day conference 'Towards May 2010: excellence in member induction' at Southwark Council's new offices in Tooley Street SE1

Watch the slideshow for more breakdowns of results:

The main findings were:

  • Average Induction programmes across every region in England cover about 62% of an estimated 'best practice' checklist
  • However, members do not feel (or at least remember) the benefits of their inductions as much as in theory they have been offered - Officers report an average of 70%, while Members report average of 50%
  • In addition, there can be a wide divergence in member's experiences from the same council.
  • LB Haringey reports the highest score at 96%, whereas a member from North Tyneside reports her experience covering only 8% of possible support the Council could have offered.
The tool is still live, and the more results we have the better we will be able to provide useful analysis and guidance on best practice in induction - so if you haven't already please go to: http://21stcenturycouncillor.com/tests
